When you call, please give your name, location, and describe the conditions of the emergency as completely as possible. If natural gas is escaping AND burning . . . .
Indoors
- Call RG&E
- Shut off natural gas supply at the appliance or meter, if possible
- Protect nearby combustibles
- Do not extinguish the flame until the natural gas supply can be shut off
Outdoors
- Call RG&E
- Let natural gas burn
- Clear the area
- Protect nearby combustibles
- Stay at a safe distance
If natural gas is escaping but NOT burning . . . .
Indoors
- Call RG&E
- Evacuate the building
- Shut off natural gas supply at the appliance or meter, if possible
- Eliminate ignition sources
- Ventilate the building
- Stay at a safe distance
Outdoors
- Call RG&E
- Clear the area
- Shut off natural gas supply if possible
- Eliminate ignition sources
- Use fog pattern to eliminate static
- Stay at a safe distance
