Estimated Restoration Times

Estimated Restoration Times

We work hard every day to keep the power on. Sometimes powerful storms or other factors can cause power outages. If this happens, we’ll get your power on as quickly and safely as possible - and we will keep you informed!

Your Estimated Time of Restoration

If your power goes out, we know that accurate restoration times are important to you. Once you’ve reported your outage, there are many factors that we use to determine when power will be restored.

During non-weather event days:

  • We’ll provide an initial estimate of how long it will take our crews to restore your power based on our past performance restoring power in a similar situation.
  • We may use the term “assessing” regarding your outage if we have not yet completed our investigation of repairs that need to be made, but are aware that an outage may be affecting your service.
  • Estimated restoration times may change as our crews evaluate the cause and extent of damage and calculate the time their work will take to safely restore your power. We’ll continue to keep you informed.
  • Sign up for Outage Alerts to receive these updates by text, email or phone.
  • Customers may also find current outage inforamtion on our outage list or outage map.

During severe weather events:

  • We first assess the extent of damage to the electricity delivery system and work with emergency responders on keeping everyone safe - guarding, removing or de-energizing downed wires and clearing inaccessible areas to allow vehicles to enter or exit areas.
  • We predict an estimated time of restoration for large areas of our service territory.
  • We may use the term “assessing” regarding your outage if we have not yet completed our investigation of repairs that need to be made, but are aware that an outage may be affecting your service.

The best way to get information about your specific location is to sign up for Outage Alerts . Your alerts will start immediately - ever if you sign up during an outage. You will receive a text, email or phone message (your choice!) with information about the outage, including your estimated restoration time. When information is updated, you will receive alerts. Our website is mobile-friendly and provides information in both an outage listing and outage map. You may also contact us at 1.800.743.1701 for electric emergencies and interruptions.

There are many different factors associated with a power outage and your estimated time of restoration may require an update based on new information. The initial ETR is based on the average time of restoration and takes into consideration whether the outage is an isolated incident - such as a tree falling on a wire - or part of a larger event, such as a major storm. When our crews arrive on the scene, they are able to provide a more accurate assessment of the damage and how long it will take to repair it. Based on the information we receive from our field crews, your ETR may change.

We are committed to working hard to provide the most accurate ETRs in the face of changing circumstances.

Your Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) is the time we expect your power to be restored. This estimate is derived based on where you live, the cause of the outage and our assessment of the repairs needed.

A global ETR is a predicted estimated time of restoration for the entire company's service area.

A regional ETR is a predicted estimated time of restoration for a cluster of locations that are within close proximity, such as neighboring towns.

A local ETR is a predicted estimated time of restoration for a specific location, typically smaller in size, like a town of a neighborhood within a town. In these instances, we will provide you with your account-specific ETR.
