Substation Upgrade

SODUS, N.Y. — July 2, 2025 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) is continuing to make investments to modernize critical grid infrastructure to accommodate the increased voltage and increased electrical capacity in its service area. RG&E upgraded circuits that feed into Substation 210 in Sodus, NY, from 4.16kV to 12.47kV. These improvements help ensure consistent and reliable service to customers as energy needs have outpaced the original system.

“The overall goal is to enhance service for our customers and accessibility for crews,” said Young Le, unit manager for RG&E Lines Projects. “These improvements will increase available capacity while reducing the frequency of outages.”

The project upgraded the circuit that follows Maple Avenue, Lake Road, and Middle Road. Upgrading circuits will improve performance today while accommodating the future growth of increased demand. Crews rerouted service for the Sodus Sewer Plant from Maple Avenue to Mud Lane to reduce the risk of outages due to overgrown vegetation to improve the reliability of service to the treatment plant. Enhanced digital controls were also installed, which will help reduce the frequency and duration of outages.

The cost of the project was $5 million, which included the conversion of 3 miles from 4.16kV to 12.47kV starting at Sodus Bay
