NYSEG and RG&E Near Full Restoration Following Outages Caused by Sustained Strong Winds and Thunderstorms
Power restored to more than 159,000 customers since yesterday
BINGHAMTON N.Y. — June 19, 2026, 9:55 a.m. — New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) continue to address power outages across New York following strong thunderstorms and winds that moved through portions of New York State yesterday.
All told, since 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon more than 175,000 NYSEG and RG&E customers across the state were affected by the storm, with approximately 16,000 customers still without power as of Friday morning. At this time, all NYSEG customers remaining without power are expected to be restored by midnight tonight. All RG&E customers are expected to be restored by midnight on Saturday evening. While these estimated restoration times reflect the current outlook for fully completing restoration efforts, they represent the outer bounds of the Companies’ projections, and in most instances service will be restored well before these estimated completion times.
To accelerate restoration efforts, the Companies have increased the number of crews and resources since yesterday with the number of crews deployed from 600 yesterday to more than 725 today. These additional crews have been mobilized across service territories to help restore service to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
The divisions most affected by the storm include Central (Monroe and Orleans counties), Ithaca (Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tomkins counties) and Lancaster (Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie counties).
Crews will continue to make critical network repairs as safely and quickly as possible. This includes setting poles to replace those damaged in the storm and repairing numerous downed wires. Efforts will continue until every customer has their power restored.

NYSEG and RG&E will continue to provide updates throughout the event on their websites and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and X). Customers should also sign up for email alerts and download the NYSEG or RG&E Mobile App to get the most up-to-date information.

Stay Away from Downed Wires:
- Stay at least 30 feet from a downed power line.
- If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, jump clear of the vehicle to avoid any contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and hop with feet together or shuffle away; don’t run or stride.
- NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 and RG&E customers should call 1.800.743.1701 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.
During a Power Interruption:
- Contact neighbors to see if their power is off. A loss of power may be the result of a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker.
- To report a power interruption, contact NYSEG at 1.800.572.1131 or RG&E at 1.800.743.1701.
- Keep refrigerators and freezers closed as much as possible. Most food will last 24 hours if you minimize the opening of refrigerator and freezer doors.
Power Restoration Priorities:
The Companies’ first priorities are to respond to reports of downed power lines to keep the public safe. NYSEG customers are asked to call 1.800.572.1131 and RG&E customers are asked to call at 1.800.743.1701 to report downed wires. Once this vital public safety work is complete, the Companies will:
