Station 192 Project

Station 192 Project

Reliability Upgrades

As part of our commitment to provide safe, reliable service to all our customers, Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E), in conjunction with our parent company – AVANGRID, is updating the delivery system in our service areas. These upgrades comply with new electric transmission reliability requirements.

While making investments to meet the community’s growing energy demands, we are working closely with our neighbors to ensure that all improvements are performed with minimal disruption to the environment and the communities we serve.

Project Purpose and Need

To comply with more stringent reliability standards issued by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), we are planning an upgrade of certain components of the electric delivery systems in the Town of Huron. Specifically, we will be rebuilding Station 192 to improve its reliability, upgrade its infrastructure, and enhance its capabilities on behalf of our valued RG&E customers in the surrounding area.

The rebuild and expansion of this upgrade project will also increase the overall resiliency of the entire system while simultaneously modernizing the substation’s technological components.

Project Scope

  • Building the new substation adjacent to the existing
    substation, which will be demolished.
  • Upgrading the existing transformer with a new, more efficient
14MVA transformer to support the existing circuit.
  • Replacing the existing air-insulated switchgear (AIS) with
    new 38kV and 15kV Gas-insulated Switchgear (GIS).
  • Installing a new Gas-insulated Switchgear (GIS) Control
    House.
  • Conversion of 3-4kV distribution circuits to 12kV.
  • Retaining wall installation to achieve proper grading for
    the new substation footprint.
  • Installing new perimeter fencing around the new station
    footprint.
  • Removing trees on the new property.
