Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program

Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program

The Affordable Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program (AMEEP) is a combined effort of the Joint Utilities of New York—a coalition of  energy companies operating across the state, including NYSEG, RG&E, Con Edison, Orange & Rockland, Central Hudson, National Grid, National Fuel Gas, and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). AMEEP offers incentives for the installation of energy efficient equipment and technology to help reduce overall energy use in affordable multifamily buildings of five or more units.

What We Offer

  • Free Energy assessments: Incentives up to $1,200 per unit are available for whole-building retrofits across multiple building systems such as insulation, lighting, heating, and cooling. Incentives are applied based on a system of accumulated points.
  • Free installation in dwelling units of quick, easy measures such as LED lights, low flow showerheads, programmable and WiFi thermostats, and faucet aerators.
  • Incentives for smaller projects are determined by the equipment installed and/or energy savings.

Additional technical assistance is available through NYSERDA’s FlexTech program which can provide help in the form of an energy audit (also known as an energy assessments). Audits are conducted by NYSERDA-approved Energy Providers to identify energy efficiency opportunities to determine an initial scope of work. To encourage and support comprehensive and non-comprehensive projects, we have a list of Energy Providers via the link below.

The program covers 75% of the cost share when the audit is completed.

The Non-Comprehensive Pathway is available for completing smaller projects that do not reach 100 points.

  • Ideal for smaller upgrades of a measure.
  • Incentives are determined by equipment installed and/or energy savings.
  • There is no minimum points threshold per project.

We also offer free installation in dwelling units of quick, easy measures such as LED lights, low flow showerheads, and faucet aerators.

Please reference the incentive fact sheets Fact Sheet (Hoja informativa) for current information on eligible measures, requirements, and incentive amounts.

For detailed information, refer to our Program Manual.

The Comprehensive Pathway is for more intensive retrofit projects across multiple building systems (such as heating and cooling, insulation, and lighting). Incentives are applied based on a point system. A minimum of 100 points will need to be achieved to fall into category.

  • Allows for more dramatically improved energy efficiency.
  • It is ideal for large projects or whole building retrofits.
  • Offers higher incentives and a mid-project incentive payment.

Owners, agents, or property managers with affordable multifamily buildings that include five or more residential units may be eligible to participate. If the building you own or manage is designated as affordable housing, you may qualify for energy efficient retrofits that can help reduce energy costs. Affordable multifamily housing is defined as buildings that have regulatory agreements with a housing agency or in which at least 25% of the units are, or are expected to be, occupied by households earning not more than 80% of the Area Median Income or State Median Income, whichever is greater. Supporting documentation must be provided to participate. View the full list of accepted documentation.

For detailed information, refer to our program manual for overall program rules and specific requirements.

If you’re ready to pursue an eligible project, submit an application to MFEnergySavings@RISEEngineering.com.

Questions? Email MFEnergySavings@RISEEngineering.com or call 800.444.5668.

If you have questions or need additional information, please submit an interest form to be contacted by an implementation contractor before submitting your application.

Note: If this property doesn’t qualify as affordable housing, you may be eligible for our Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program.

Contractors are an essential part of this program and are encouraged to join our list of Participating Contractors. Participating Contractors in good standing may be allowed to  accept incentive payments on behalf of the customer.

To become eligible as a Participating Contractor, complete a Participating Contractor application and follow the instructions to submit to the utility in your service area. For  additional information, view our Participating Contractor Agreement.
