If you are responding to an emergency, please call RG&E immediately at 1.800.743.1702.  When you call, please give your name, location, and describe the conditions of the emergency as completely as possible.  Once you have contacted RG&E, the following steps may be appropriate depending on the situation.

 

If natural gas is escaping and burning . . . .

Indoors

1. Call RG&E
2. Shut off natural gas supply if possible
3. Protect nearby combustibles
4. Do not extinguish the flame until the natural gas supply can be shut off

 

Outdoors

1. Call RG&E
2. Let natural gas burn
3. Clear the area
4. Protect nearby combustibles
5. Stay at a safe distance

 

If natural gas is escaping but not burning . . . .

Indoors

1. Call RG&E
2. Evacuate the building
3. Shut off natural gas supply if possible
4. Eliminate ignition sources
5. Ventilate the building
6. Stay at a safe distance

 

Outdoors

1. Call RG&E
2. Clear the area
3. Shut off natural gas supply if possible
4. Eliminate ignition sources
5. Use fog pattern on plastic
6. Stay at a safe distance
