ENERGY  EAST  FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTES  $50,000 TO THE FREDERICK DOUGLASS RESOURCE CENTER

FUNDS TO BE USED TO ESTABLISH AND OFFSET COSTS  ASSOCIATED WITH INTERPRETIVE AND CIVIC ORIENTED PROGRAMMING


Rochester, NY – February 29, 2008 - The Energy East Foundation has awarded $50,000 to support the Frederick Douglass Resource Center’s State of the Sector program that is designed to engage young adults in civic-related activities. The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Energy East Corporation, RG&E’s parent company.

“The Energy East Foundation has not only articulated its support for the Frederick Douglass Center and its program, it has made an important financial commitment to assure their success.  This award continues the long tradition of commitment to the community started by RG&E,” said Gerard Hunt, Executive Director of the Frederick Douglass Resource Center.
 
“We are very pleased to support the important work of the Frederick Douglass Resource Center in the City of Rochester through The Energy East Foundation,” said Jim Laurito, President and Chief Executive Officer at RG&E. “We are particularly interested in the Resource Center’s work to encourage young adults to become involved in civic and community activities.”

“I want to thank the Energy East Foundation for joining the City of Rochester in our commitment to the Frederick Douglass Resource Center. Their contribution will go a long way to provide education and outreach about Frederick Douglass and his message of freedom to our young adults,” said Mayor Robert J. Duffy.

The Frederick Douglass Resource Center is a non-profit 501(c) (3) cultural center, with the goal of illuminating the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass and African and African-American heritage and culture.
