RG&E Sponsors ECOFEST at 2012 Greentopia Festival
Two-Day Sustainability Celebration Happens This Weekend at High Falls
Rochester, NY – RG&E, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, is proud to be a major sponsor of the second annual Greentopia Festival, a week-long event of celebration, education and exploration of sustainability to promote better living, stronger communities and a healthier planet.
RG&E is also the presenting sponsor of Greentopia ECOFEST — a two-day exploration of all things green. ECOFEST will offer a wide variety of things to see and do including speakers, green vendors, a farmers’ market, how-to’s, an alternative fuel vehicle exhibit, a kids’ zone, a fashion show featuring garments made from recycled and upcycled materials, music, organic food and more.
RG&E will be giving guided tours of its Browns Race “rack house,” where water enters large pipes and drops down to our hydroelectric generating station on the Genesee River at High Falls. Customers who take the tour can learn more about our 100+ year history of generating clean, renewable hydropower right in downtown Rochester.
Customers can also visit the RG&E exhibit and sign up for our eco-friendly e-Bill service and receive a compact fluorescent light bulb. They can also learn more about our many energy efficiency programs including our refrigerator/freezer recycling program — where we pay you $30 to take away your old freezer or refrigerator and recycle 95% of its material.
“We’re pleased to be part of the Greentopia Festival once again, and happy to provide this opportunity for our customers to explore ways to live more sustainable lives,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E.
The Greentopia ECOFEST is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 15 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 16 at High Falls. Admission is free.
