RG&E Schedules Public Meetings on the Rochester Area Reliability Project

$250 Million Project Will Upgrade Transmission System, Enhance Reliability

Rochester, NY – RG&E has scheduled a series of public meetings to explain plans to invest $250 million in its electricity transmission system – a project that will provide an additional source of electricity to the region to enhance reliability and support economic growth. The project will create an average of 70 construction jobs over 18 months.

The meetings are:

The key components of the project include:

  • Building a new substation on approximately 10 acres in the Town of Chili. 
  • Constructing 1.9 miles of new 345-kilovolt (kv) transmission line in the towns of Chili and Henrietta. 
  • Rebuilding/relocating 2.5 miles of an existing circuit located in a railroad right of way in the Town of Chili. 
  • Building 9.8 miles of 115-kv transmission line between the new substation in the Town of Chili and an existing substation in the Town of Gates. 
  • Building 11.3 miles of 115-kv transmission line to connect the new substation in the Town of Chili to our existing Station 23 in the City of Rochester, including a 1.1-mile section in the Town of Gates. 
  • Improvements to existing substations in the towns of Gates and Henrietta and the City of Rochester.

The proposed routes for the transmission work are primarily on existing utility rights of way and transportation corridors.
