RG&E Grant Will Help Keep Nearly 800 Jobs at General Motors Components Holdings in Rochester

Award will fund new electric infrastructure for GM’s $100 million manufacturing expansion at fuel injection assembly plant.

Rochester, NY (April 12, 2011) – RG&E has awarded General Motors Components Holdings LLC (GMCH) a grant for electrical infrastructure construction at its Lexington Avenue assembly plant in the City of Rochester. This investment by RG&E is part of a $100 million manufacturing upgrade/expansion planned for the facility which will help retain about 794 jobs and add 30 new jobs in the area.

This assistance is part of the ongoing NYSEG and RG&E economic development programs that are designed to encourage new capital investment and grow/keep jobs by helping to retain businesses, expand existing businesses and to attract new businesses to upstate New York.

"Without the comprehensive assistance provided by RG&E, Empire State Development and the Monroe County Industrial Development Association several years ago when we were owned by Delphi, this facility would have not remained open,” said Robert Randazzo, manager of facilities and plant engineering at GM Components Holdings. “Now, this round of funding will help us move up to the next level and expand our manufacturing line to build new fuel-injection system components here in Rochester instead of having GM send that work offshore.”

“The GM Components Holdings story is a great example of how RG&E/NYSEG investments in upstate New York can have a very large and long-lasting effect,” said Mark Lynch, NYSEG/RG&E president. “Instead of losing this plant altogether, we’ll now see a significant investment in new manufacturing technology plus job retention and growth in Rochester, which are exactly why we invest in the communities we serve.”

Funding for this assistance was approved by the New York Public Service Commission as part of the NYSEG/RG&E rate agreements that went into effect in September 2010. According to these agreements, NYSEG and RG&E are committed to invest approximately $12 million per year, for the next three years, in economic development programs to businesses that want to expand in, or relocate to, upstate New York. .
