NYSEG and RG&E Sponsor ECOFEST at 2013 Greentopia Festival
Two-Day Sustainability Celebration Happens This Weekend at High Falls
Rochester, NY – NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of Iberdrola USA, are proud to help sponsor the third annual Greentopia Festival, a week-long event of celebration, education and exploration of sustainability to promote better living, stronger communities and a healthier planet.
NYSEG and RG&E are also presenting sponsors of Greentopia ECOFEST — a two-day exploration of all things green. ECOFEST will offer a wide variety of things to see and do including speakers, green vendors, a top chefs culinary series, an alternative fuel vehicle exhibit, a kids’ zone, a fashion show featuring garments made from recycled and upcycled materials, music, organic food and more.
NYSEG and RG&E will be giving guided tours of our Browns Race “rack house,” where water enters large pipes and drops down to our hydroelectric generating station on the Genesee River at High Falls. Customers who take the tour can learn more about our 100+ year history of generating clean, renewable hydropower right in downtown Rochester.
Customers can also visit the NYSEG/RG&E exhibit and sign up for our eco-friendly e-Bill service and EnergySaver program – where you can earn rewards as you lower your energy bill. Our energy efficiency team will also be on hand with information about our residential programs, including our refrigerator/freezer recycling program — where we pay you $50 to take away your old freezer or refrigerator and recycle 95% of its material.
“This impressive event is growing by leaps and bounds, and its influence has grown, too – moving well beyond Rochester. That very fact is why we decided to expand our support and presence here this year to include NYSEG participation. We’re pleased to be part of the Greentopia Festival once again, and happy to provide this opportunity for our customers to explore ways to live more sustainable lives,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E.
The Greentopia ECOFEST is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 14 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 15 at High Falls. Admission is free. See a complete schedule of Greentopia festivities at http://www.greentopiafest.com/.
