RG&E Commits $300,000 to Help Nazareth College Prepare the Next Generation of Teachers, Healers and Discoverers
Funds will be used to install electrical infrastructure for new Integrated Center for Math and Science facility
Rochester, NY (April 11, 2011) – Rochester Gas & Electric recently awarded Nazareth College $300,000 in potential economic development grants for electrical infrastructure construction at the college’s new Integrated Center for Math and Science. This 74,000 square foot LEEDS certified facility will house 20 biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy & physiology, math, computing and ecology labs, and will be an important resource in preparing K-12 educators and healthcare professionals for our community.
The RG&E grant was part of a package of financial assistance Nazareth received from federal, state and local public and private institutions to help fund the $32 million construction project. RG&E and sister company NYSEG have an ongoing commitment to encourage new capital investment and grow jobs by helping retain, expand and attract new businesses and organizations to upstate New York.
"I’m proud that RG&E and other Rochester-area organizations like Excellus BC/BS and M&T Bank rallied together to help make this dream a reality,” said Daan Braveman, president of Nazareth College. “These local stalwarts combined forces with governmental entities and private donors to create the funding for this extraordinary facility that will help Nazareth prepare students for science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers, and as future health care workers and math and science educators for generations to come.”
“RG&E and NYSEG are committed to upstate New York, now and far into the future,” said Mark Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “We will invest to create jobs and train the next generations of New Yorkers to fill those jobs – that’s why our economic development programs exist.”
From September 2010 through December 2013, NYSEG and RG&E will invest nearly $40 million in economic development grants and rate incentives to businesses that want to expand in, or relocate to, upstate New York. Funding for these grants was approved by the New York Public Service Commission.
