NYSEG and RG&E Expand Energy Efficiency Program to 11 Additional Counties

Rochester, NY – NYSEG and RG&E are expanding an already-successful Small Business Energy Efficiency Program to 11 new counties in New York State.

The lighting upgrade program for businesses and municipal customers with demand of less than 100 kilowatts is now being rolled out in Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Livingston, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Putnam, Schuyler, Sullivan and Tioga counties. Eligible businesses will receive a free energy assessment and NYSEG or RG&E will cover 70% of the cost of recommended lighting upgrades.

Qualifying lighting upgrades include replacing existing fluorescent fixtures with higher efficiency lamps and ballasts, changing incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and upgrading exit signs to light emitting diode (LED) technology.

Since the program began in May, more than 1,600 NYSEG and RG&E business customers have participated. Those businesses have saved 10 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and $1,250,000.

NYSEG and RG&E will continue to the roll the program through additional counties until the end of August 2011. The launch schedule is available at nyseg.com and rge.com.

The Small Business Energy Efficiency Program is being conducted in accordance with a November 2009 New York State Public Service Commission order approving commercial and industrial efficiency programs for utilities across the state. The program is funded by the System Benefits Charge on electricity customers’ bills.

EnerPath, NYSEG and RG&E’s contractor for the program, hires and trains local workers to conduct the energy assessments and selects and supervises licensed New York State contractors to complete the lighting upgrades.
